Gypsy (White Patchwork)

Originally written by Hannikat

Origin: unknown.

Appearance: gypsies have a full calico shape and are free of calico patches and are always solid coloured. Any coat colour combination as long as they are bicolored (no solids with hidden markings) eye colours and eyelids are accepted. Coon, oshie and persian/chinchilla persian tails are accepted as long as they have the corresponding markings to be part of the standard.

Markings: the cat must have patches on one of their jowls, their tail, a paw and an ear. If it has less markings than that then it is not considered a gypsy, the three patches are all obligatory to fit the standard. There are tail markings like the one shown on the picture and also tail markings that have a tailtip as well. This catz can not have other patches than the ones shown on the picture, which actually come from the calico breed itself

White Patchworks, or gypsies as they usually get called, are quite popular, but not many people are aware of their exact standards. In particular, there is a lot of misconception about which patches a gypsy should have. Gypsies originally had to be white, but nowadays, any colour is accepted.

Meezer Pointed Calico (MPC)

Originally written by Tiffany @ Sprocket, preserved by Litterz Factory

The meezer-pointed calico is another common, highly variable type of pet. Basically speaking, they are poof-tailed calicos with siamese markings, but there are a few other possibilities. Note that the siamese muzzle consists of only the to top jowls, and doesn’t cover the chin.

Body: entirely Calico
Markings: all Siamese points (from tail6 to tail4), must all the be the same colour, chest patch and face streak accepted
Tail: Maine Coon preferred, Calico accepted
Eyes: any colour

Patchwork (Black Patchwork)

Originally written by Hannikat

Origin: unknown.

Appearance: this pet look a lot like gypsies and are also solid coloured with any eyelid, eye and and coat colour. The body shape is fully a calico’s. They can either be bicoloured or tricoloured, but never be a single colour, meaning not with hidden markings. Coon, oshie and persian/chinchilla persian tails are accepted as long as they have the corresponding markings to be part of the standard.

Markings: it is not certain whether the patches all have to be white, but combinations can be done, the chest patch and face steak will always be white, though, because of the petz genetics. The markings that can differ in colour are the jowl, tail, ear and paw’s. This cat must have all of the markings shown in order to fit the standard.

The black patchwork is a lot like the white patchwork, except that its body is black and it also has a chest patch and face streak. These are always white and don’t have to match with the other markings, which means a black patchwork can be a tricolour. Again, just like the white patchwork, the “black” in black patchwork has been forgotten and any colour cat with the right markings will be considered a patchwork.
